Kyneton has much to offer visitors

The town of Kyneton is situated on the Campaspe River, an hour northwest of Melbourne and equal distance from Bendigo. With its trendy boutiques, historic buildings, museum, bluestone churches, gourmet eateries and local wineries, this helps make Kyneton the perfect weekend getaway destination. 

Kyneton Museum

The Kyneton Museum collection is housed in a beautiful bluestone building designed by architect Andrea Stumbucco who was responsible for many beautiful buildings in the Gold Rush Era. There are changing exhibitions indoors and outdoors. Upstairs the bank manager’s residence is preserved in time. The Museum is also home to a wide variety of carriages and historical agricultural equipment.

Botanic Gardens & Campaspe River Walk

The Kyneton Botanic Gardens provides a beautiful open space with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounds. The garden also has a rotunda, a fairy ring of trees and a drinking fountain dating back to1902. The Campaspe Riverside walk commences upstream from the Mollison Street Bridge  and finishes at the Kyneton Racecourse. The river is home to many species of fish icluding The Redfin, Tench and Yellow Belly.

Hanging Rock

Hanging Rock was made famous in the novel and film Picnic at Hanging Rock. Hanging Rock is a 15 minute drive from The Central Highlands Motor Inn. There is so much more to do at Hanging Rock than just walking up the Rock.

Hanging Rock also plays host to music concerts, having featured some of the biggest musical acts in the world, with Leonard Cohen, Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Cold Chisel and Midnight Oil, all performing in the shadow of the famous landmark.

Turpins Falls

Situated 12.6km from Kyneton and is one of several waterfalls and associated deep pools located along the Campaspe River. Turpins Falls cascades down over a gorgeous, huge semi-circular wall of rock into a large pool of water below. This is an impressive, peaceful location. The best time of year to visit to see the falls flowing in full force is winter/spring. Visitors can enjoy scenic views of the falls from a lookout located a short walk from the carpark.
